The Lost Bead
The parable of the woman searching for her lost coin (Luke 15:8-9) was very much on my mind recently when I lost a bead. It was a lovely 3mm round corrugated silver bead that I dropped as I was threading it onto a rosary line (see picture on left for what a rosary line looks like). I’m not exactly penny-pinching but sure can be frugal, and at approximately two cents per bead, I was immediately crawling around on the floor and under my dining room table looking for it. “Rejoice with me because I have found the bead that I lost.” Yes, I did find it. It was such a wee thing but so worth hunting down. I thought about God searching for me, tiny creature that I am, one of His little ones but no less important to Him than the greatest in His Kingdom. How happy God is when he finds me and brings me home to His heart of boundless love! And how happy I am, too! I also thought of my sins, which are more often than not small as opposed to large.

Bead Distraction
Have you ever had beading overload? Tonight it started when I was looking through a “junk drawer” or catch all drawer in the kitchen and found a HUGE black plastic bead that must have come from something like a purse and my mind started racing about how to use it. Then I found a premade bracelet on stretchy cord that someone gave me so I could use the beads. They are pretty dark brown, sort of shiny beads. The next thing I found in the drawer was the credit card-like cruise ship cabin “key”. I started reminiscing about the cruise ship and remembered one of the ladies who works at a local Joann Etc. store. She took used Joann gift cards and cut out the word “Joann’s”, punched holes in either end and strung them, in between multi-colored 8mm crystal bicones all along a beaded eye glass holder. How cool was that!!!? I need to go on more cruises so I can make something out of multiple cruise ship cabin keys!
Okay, you are probably seeing a pattern of distraction here….

Bead Soup !!!
Today is the day! Finally I get to reveal what I made with my beautiful bead soup from Jenni Connolly. First of all, I was so lucky to get such beautiful beads. I knew right away I wanted two things; to bring out the fuschia in the beads that Jenni made and to make a necklace that was a show stopper. Hopefully, I have done that here. Here’s what I received in the mail from Jenni. Here’s my post about the day it arrived. I went into my beading area of the studio and saw the spikey shell beads hanging on the wall. I have had these forever and I guess this is what they had been waiting for. After choosing the shells everything else just fell into place. As for the design, I knew I wanted a multi strand necklace. I started laying out the layers on my table. I played around for—-ever trying to get the right length and layers. I didn’t want symectrical so it took a while for me to get the beads exactly where I wanted them.

Book Giveaway: Bead Chic by Margot Potter
I have the final book giveaway of September for you today, and let me tell you, it’s an amazing one! Bead Chic: 36 Stylish Jewelry Projects & Inspired Variations is an exciting book by Margot Potter which is full of the kind of gorgeous projects that you might expect from this skilled designer and author. The concept of the book is really fun… it shows you many different techniques and examples of taking a jewelry design that you see and using it as inspiration. Margot had several other designers collaborate in parts of this book, including myself! We were given a project from the book and asked to create our own piece of jewelry, using the project as inspiration. I really enjoyed the challenge! These are the two pieces I made for Bead Chic. I am really pleased with both of them and was honored to be asked to participate in the challenge. I have one copy of Bead Chic to giveaway this week. I will choose the winner on Friday, October 1st! Leave a comment and tell me someone who inspires you artistically.

On the 10th Day of Christmas: Bead Bravely Ornament
Difficulty: Easy/Beginner This is an easy, personalized, stamping project for the beginner. You’ll stamp the spoon flat and measure where to place the letters of your chosen phrase. Then you’ll create a loop in the spoon handle, decorate with glass double dip art beads by Cindy Gimbrone and finish off with a wire spiral ornament hanger. Inspiration for the project (Picture of Cindy’s Grandmother at age 14) Several years ago, my mother handed me a container full of odds and ends silverware owned by her mother. Since my grandmother had died when I was very young, I’ve always cherished the small things passed down to me that were hers. My heirloom of mismatched tableware isn’t particularly valuable. There isn’t a full set of any pattern and it’s inexpensive silverplate. So for years I carried around the silverware wondering what I’d really do with it. This is the perfect project. I have a memento from her yet don’t feel like I’m ruining something of value.

My Bead Soup
This is the gorgeous bead soup I received from my partner Shiraz from Secret Song Designs She was so generous. Obviously, I have plenty of supplies here to make multiple jewelry pieces. Except for a sterling toggle that I put in at the last minute, this is the bead soup that I sent. She sent so much, that I hope I sent enough. The rules require that you send a focal piece (which I figured could either be the lampwork bead (made by DD Hess) or the passion charm); coordinating spacer or other beads; and a special clasp. I made a few claps, but then I thought the toggle would be good to add just in case she wasn’t thrilled with my wire handi-work. Once we get our bead soup from our partner, the next thing we have to do is make jewelry .

David Yurman Spiritual Bead Bracelets: A Spiritual Awakening
**NEED THE IMAGE! Known for his weighty and mature bejeweled silver chunk (ideal for layering, but can get a little hefty for everyday), you can imagine my surprise to find these edgy and youthful bracelets are from David Yurman. I adore diamonds as much as the next jewel snob, but a girl can’t be walking around all day in her bling (not normal girls, anyway). These beaded sparklers are the answer. Total understated chic, with enough twinkle to maintain desired levels of glam. Black onyx goes with everything and an off-centered pave diamond bead .

Marco Bicego 18K Gold Bead Bracelet: A Contradiction in Terms
Refined and understated. Bold and high-impact. Glance over your jewel box and you’ll see that most of your beads and baubles fall into one of those two categories, but I’m willing to bet, you won’t find many that fit into both. That’s what makes Marco Bicego’s layered bracelet such an incredible piece. Out of the exotic Africa collection, inspired by intense sub-Saharan wilderness, there’s an ethnic influence to the shapes of the beads. Daring and irregular in form and size, Bicego revels in their imperfections, and so do I! These hefty 18-karat gold spheres are spaced out generously so each one can receive the attention it deserves. Classic and modern at once, three strands (fixed and closed with a bar clasp) really get the point across, whereas any less would fall short and any more would be pure excess. And what is the point? It’s, of course, to marvel over this bracelet’s earthy solid-gold beauty. Yes, solid-gold with a price to match – it’s a bit of a hindrance, to say the least.

Inspiration I: Glass Beads
Inspiration comes from a variety of sources. I’m going to explore some of what inspires me in the weeks to come. Here’s a post I wrote a few years back for another blog group with some updates and new thoughts. When I first started making jewelry, it was at a local bead shop that closed in the evening. Small groups of friends could come in after hours, string beads, drink wine and share chitchat. It was just for fun then, but I knew that I enjoyed the activity and I was drawn to the different materials: the intricacies of Bali silver beads; the shapes, colors and textures of freshwater pearls; and, at that time, natural stones and semiprecious stones. I didn’t really think about inspiration though. It was a form of relaxing for me…to clear my mind of rigid computer-related stuff. The inspiration came later. Over 7 years ago I discovered lampwork beads.

Silver Boots Are Made for Walkin’
Last night, I was too tired to do bead embroidery, but still felt the need to be creative. So, I used some new Bali Beads to make a fun, dangly Bali Silver Man ! I used a 12mm Lantern Bead , a 12mm Circle Rows Bead , two large fan beads , small wheels with balls , and small beads with a dotted center/fluted ends Maybe I was also inspired by my journey through the desert, because I felt the need to add some cowboy boots & hands from my bead stash. Now, he’s a robot cowboy! You can purchase this pendant in my Etsy shop What would you have made with these Bali Silver beads?

More Bead Ornaments
I just couldn’t stop at two! I have two more ornaments to share with you today. First I created a pair of filigree ornaments with brass pieces from Paloma Antigua. There are all sorts of great painted filigree pieces in this shop! I added a glass bead, rhinestone rondelle, one of my disk beads, a bead cap and a fire polished glass bead to an eye pin. I attached the hanger and filigree with 13mm jump rings. The filigree is super lightweight so it won’t weigh down your branches. The filigree comes in sets of 2 so you can make for your tree and one for a friend or give them as a set. I could see them done in several different colors and given as a special gift. The second, is missing any art beads, but I have these round beads I need to use up. The ceramic rounds were on a bargain table at a local bead show and I ended up getting two strands of these huge beads that I will never use for jewelry. Sometimes that the danger of shopping at a show!

Acclaimed pandora beads Swarovski bracelets Good match Brilliant women
It’s no surprise, then, that tens of thousands of women each year collect Italian pandora bracelets and give them as gifts. They’re called Zoppini Charms, and you’ve probably seen one of these bracelets without knowing what it was. The personalized design and a variety of materials made Pandora Jewelry a most eye-catching part at a multitude of Fashion Shows this year. Customers cannot judge for themselves the quality of the bracelets. It’s not often that a piece of jewelry is named for an accident, but such is the case with tennis bracelets. The settings and support wiring may be constructed from silver or other quality jewelry metal. If you’re going to purchase crystal wholesale beads, these rules you’d better to keep in mind. They are a lots of crystal glass beads supplier in the market, you have to carefully choose the reliable online store, check twice before placing an order.

The Glass Bead Game
by John Michael Greer When I proposed in last week’s Archdruid Report post that readers write science fiction stories about the crisis of industrial society, I wasn’t thinking of Fed chairman Ben Bernanke as a potential author. Still, a speech of his that made the New York Times a few days back suggests that he’s got a sufficiently wild imagination for the job. In that speech, while trying to explain why shoveling trillions of dollars of money into the coffers of the banks that caused the Great Recession hasn’t done anything besides enriching bankers, Bernanke insisted that what’s wrong with the economy is that Americans are irrationally depressed about it. That, he claimed, is what’s keeping consumers from engaging in the binge spending that will get the economy moving again. You have to hand it to the man; it’s an extraordinary leap of fantasy. Out there in the real world, after all, a sixth of the US population is living below the poverty line.
